Prime Minister Gilani announces additional one-salary to doctors, paramedics

In order to resolve the longstanding issue, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday announced a rise equal to one basic salary for the doctors and paramedics of the federal hospitals in addition to their existing salaries with effect from January 2012.

Giving policy statement in the National Assembly, the premier said that several rounds of talks have been held with the demonstrating doctors and paramedics to redress their grievances.

He observed, “Cabinet Division, Establishment Division and Ministry of Finance have held dialogue with protesting doctors and paramedics and now all the issues have been settled.”

Responding a point of order raised by several MNAs about strikes of doctors and paramedics staff in the capital’s hospitals, Gilani said that the government was seriously pursuing the matter and it was committed to provide health facility to every single person in the metropolis city.

Earlier, JUI-F MNA Aasia Nasir while speaking on point of order said that people living in Islamabad were suffering due to strike of young doctors and paramedical staff. She said that the government was not taking any notice of such an important and sensitive issue.

Sohail Mansoor of MQM said that the strike of young doctors and paramedical staff was causing deaths of patients. He urged the government to take notice of the issue.

In the meantime, Federal Minister for Professional and Technical Training Riaz Pirzada assured the House that early funds would have been released for Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to pay the employees in terms of house rent.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice, the minister said FDE had sent a summary to the Ministry of Finance for funds. He held Finance Ministry responsible for non-payment of funds.

Pirzada said that priority list of employees was prepared for payment of hiring dues if the funds were released, they would be paid. Responding a question, the minister said that he would not make any false statement in the parliament.

Upon which, PML-N Legislature Junaid Anwar said that no member had been de-seated on the charges of false statement in the parliament during the entire history of Pakistan. Pirzada replied members should move against anybody who makes a false statement on floor of the House.

“This parliament will be stronger when people will set a tradition of resigning on their failure and quitting their seats on making false statements,” he maintained.
