Death toll increases resulting from the intake of contaminated drugs

The unremitting increase in the death toll resulting from the intake of contaminated drugs provided by Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) exposes the bad governance and incompetency of Punjab government and Health Department.
Officially 107 and unofficially more than 130 people have been died in the last two weeks by the use of adulterated drugs provided by PIC but the Punjab government still denies accepting the responsibility of the deaths.
Another important aspect is that the medicine that proved to be deathly for patients named “Isotab” was cleared by all laboratories in Pakistan.
However, when this medicine, which was made by Efroze Chemical Industries, was examined in a state of the art laboratory in London, it was revealed that this medicine is deathly for health.
Now the question arises, whether there is no laboratory in Pakistan that can check the purity of a medicine and it not then how the officials of all these laboratories issued the clearance report of Isotab?
The factory has been sealed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) because of producing this contaminated medicine but the question is that step enough to deal this serious issue with?
There are numerous patients particularly cardiac patients in Lahore hospitals who used Isotab are still in critical condition.
This medicine affects the bone marrow and ends the production of white blood cells that reduce and eventually ends the resistance power of body and causes the death of patients.
The Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif dismissed the CM of PIC last week but he seems not to accept the responsibility of this huge loss resulting from the use of spurious drugs.
Six other countries have also banned to use Isotab which was supplied to them by Pakistan. Supreme Court has taken suo moto action against the deaths of patients resulting from the intake of contaminated drugs in Lahore.
However, the need of the hour is to ensure the delivery of pure and verified medicines to patients. Adulterated drugs affect them badly as they are already in a miserable condition and end their chances to survive.
The responsible people should be severely punished and in order to avoid such incidents in future, the government should take rapid measures to ensure the delivery of pure medicines not only in hospitals but throughout the country.
