Google and Facebook have had to withdraw their content considered harmful to the religious sentiments in India. They have removed content from Indian domain websites, in response of a warrant issued by a civil judge in New Delhi.

"The review team has looked at the content and disabled this content from the local domains of search, YouTube and Blogger," Google spokesman was quoted as saying.

The material which includes images of religious figures are now prohibited in India. Google has published a note explaining that the measure is taken to comply with a court order. Besides these companies, a dozen more are involved
in the same case. The judge’s decision follows a lawsuit filed by a citizen alleging that the contents was intolerant and could cause unrest among the country’s religious communities.

A journalist has also filed a criminal complaint for similar reasons against large Internet companies, including Google and Facebook. Indian laws give 36 hours to comply with such orders.

However, local authorities have put immense pressure on content providers to remove them without waiting for an express order.

"to a constitutional issue of freedom of speech and expression, and suppressing it was not possible as the right to freedom of speech in democratic India separates us from a totalitarian regime like China". Google lawyer, NK Kaul
said

The government has now threatened to shut down the service declines. Last week, Blogger, Google Blog portal, announced the introduction of a new architecture of domains on their system that allows local removal of content without
involving their disappearance in other regions.

It also provides a system of local access to uncensored files. Twitter, meanwhile, announced a policy of local censorship of files that allow their existence in other countries where it has not proceeded to remove their content.
