Islamabad: (Monday, February 06, 2012) Minister for Defence, Ahmed Mukhtar said today that the government had no plans to sell Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for peanuts after injecting Rs. 15 billion into it for its overhauling.
Speaking during the senate session and responding to the demands for his resignation for deteriorating state of the national entity, Mukhtar said that if his resignation could improve the situation at PIA, he was ready to render
it. He said, “If my resignation could improve things for PIA, I am ready to quite today.”
Commenting on the revival of the affairs at PIA that used to be one of world’s best airlines a decade ago, the Minister for Defence said that the government did not have enough financial resources to buy new planes.
Telling the session that the PIA bore a formidable loss of 34 billion the year he took charge of it, Mukhtar, however, claimed that government was not responsible for it. He also claimed that he used to earn more than that he was
getting after accepting the Ministry.
