How Pakistan should line-up for upcoming friendlies – Part 2
Monday, February 6th, 2012 12:22:31 by Shahrukh SohailNewspakistan analyzes the best starting line-up possible for the upcoming friendlies taking place at the end of February in the 2nd part of the feature series.
Left-Back: Shabir Khan
Worcester City’s Shabir Khan is undoubtedly the finest wingback the Green-Kickers have in their disposal. He last played in the 2009 SAFF Cup and was seemingly overlooked by Tariq Lutfi for the qualifiers last year.
However Zavisa Milosavljevic is planning a talent scouting trip to Europe and given that the 26-year-old plys his trade at a high level, he should be worth a visit.
No one has been able to cement the left-back role but Khan should be an undisputed starter in the upcoming friendlies.
Right-Wing: Muhammad Qasim
While Lutfi may have labeled him as ‘out of form’, Qasim showed glimpses of his talents against Bangladesh last year and in the past has even scored a hat trick to boot.
The right wing is the only place in midfield which a local player can expect to make if all the foreign contingent is called and the former Ravi FC man is head and shoulders above his peers.
Centre-Midfield: Atif Bashir
The former Cardiff City man has made a successful transition into a defensive midfield role and has formed an effective partnership with Adnan Ahmed in the centre of the park. His nickname ‘The Tank’ is not just for show and Atif utilizes his physical strength
to great effect.
As he sits in front of the defence, he will be able to absorb all the oncoming attacks and distribute the ball to more attack minded players, in order to launch a counter as soon as possible.
Centre-Midfield: Adnan Ahmed
A graduate of the famed Manchester United academy, Adnan will be the pivot through which all the attacks run through. While he was not able to influence proceedings like he used in the SAFF Cup, his quality remains undoubted and he is likely to start as
a central midfielder in the friendlies.
