Pakistan completed their whitewash over England, by winning the three-match Test series 3-0. The hosts won their final game by 71 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday, February 6, 2012.
England needed 324 runs for victory with more than two days of play left in the match. However, the team could only manage 252 in the end. They were once again unable to cope up with the spinners and pacer Umar Gul also troubled them with his quality bowling.
The Poms were in good control of the final Test, as they bowled the opposition out for 99 runs in their first innings. However, Andrew Strauss and his men failed to capitalise on this and lost in the end.
In the post match presentation today, Strauss stated, "I’m surprised we didn’t get bigger scores but you have to credit Pakistan. When they were ahead, they didn’t allow us to come back. We’re a lot better at the end of the 3rd Test, than at the start
of the first. Test cricket is difficult by its nature. I’ve got great faith in our players but this is an eye opener."
On the other hand, Pakistan’s skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was extremely happy with what his side managed to achieve over the past one and a half year.
The 37-year-old stated, "I just can’t explain this in words. Getting out for 99, nobody thought we could come back. Azhar’s innings was the big difference. Gul is a wonderful match-winning bowler too. We should now learn to play well outside Asia and
this team can do that."
Pakistan have not lost a Test series since the spot fixing controversy in 2010. Misbah has led the team exceptionally and he has got terrific support from senior players like Younis Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Saeed Ajmal and Gul.
The former of the four is one of the best batsman of all times. He brought up his 20th Test century in the series and adds great value to the team. He aims to become the most successful batsman for his country and certainly has the potential to achieve that.
