Lahore, February 7: People never disregard the importance of books despite the progress of digital world as it was seen at the 26th Lahore International Book Fair, which took place at the Expo Centre in Johar Town.
This five-day International Book Fair, which was organised by the Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association (PPBA) and the Lahore International Book Fair Trust (LIBFT), received superb response from students and general public in the last four days.
A huge strength of people taking interest in books on various topics indicates that the digital world still remains behind when it comes to get knowledge along with a pleasure of reading.
At this book fair, 240 publishers, local and foreign, displayed countless books on various subjects including religion, business management, information technology, literature, agriculture, computer and engineering, law, education, medical sciences and on
many other topics.
A large number of people from different social backgrounds and from all walks of life visited this book fair and purchased books on discounted rates. The publishers were also satisfied with the interest of people and got wonderful sales of their books.
Many literary people also visited the book fair and appreciated the organisers and the visitors for becoming a part of this productive event.
Farhat Abbas Shah, a famous poet, said, “In the digital age, the habit of reading books among people has not diminished.”
He also insisted that these events should take place with regular intervals which engage people in the productive habit of book reading and this healthy activity creates positive effects on society.
In this modern world, when everyone is talking about video games and internet, such a wonderful response of people towards a book fair is a pleasant surprise and it also indicates that people still have love for books.
This productive book fair is going to be concluded today as it is the fifth and final day of this event.
The interest of people showed that these kind of events produce a healthy effect on the minds of people especially youngsters, who are going away from the habit of book reading.
