Selection committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the limited-overs squads for the upcoming series against England in United Arab Emirates and senior cricketers Shoaib Malik and Abdul Razzaq have been dropped from the
Pakistan team.
Pakistan has already beaten the English team in the recently concluded three-match Test series as the visitors were badly whitewashed on spin friendly conditions. The Green Shirts will now start the One Day International (ODI) and T20
series as favourites.
Left handed opening batsman from Rawalpindi, Awais Zia has been named in the T20 squad after some brilliant showings in domestic T20 cricket. He is known for his hard hitting and the ability to time the ball well. It remains to be seen
that he can deliver the goods at the highest stage of the game or not.
All-rounder Hammad Azam is included in both ODI and T20 squad. Hammad represented Pakistan in past as well but failed to make an impression. However, the youngster is extremely talented and is expected to be an integral part of the
national team for years to come.
Wicketkeeper batsman, Sarfraz Ahmed has been dropped from the limited-over squad as the Test wicketkeeper; Adnan Akmal will now keep wickets in the shorter format of the game as well.
Azhar Ali, who is generally regarded as a Test specialist, is rewarded for his brilliant ton in the Dubai Test and will be part of Pakistan’s ODI squad. However, Taufeeq Umar failed to find a place in the limited-over squad. The two
of them have been criticized for being ultra-defensive in the longer version of the sport.
Shahid Afridi is also back in the national team and is expected to play a massive role in the series against England. He will be accompanied in the spin bowling department by Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman and Mohammad Hafeez.
