Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf has made it clear that Mohsin Khan will not be given a permanent contract as head coach of the national side, despite the team’s recent run of success.
The Men in Green have had a dream run under Misbah-ul-Haq’s captaincy, not losing even a single series in any format of the game.
Although most of the credit is given to Pakistan’s skipper, some believe Mohsin has also played a vital part in turning things around for the team. However, the cricket authority in the country aims to bring in a professional for the coaching role.
After Pakistan whitewashed England 3-0 in a Test series, the PCB chief said that he wanted to achieve even bigger things.
According to Ashraf, "There are bigger targets to achieve. I want to see the team become world champions. And for that we need to have foreign or local qualified coaches in every department. No doubt the team has achieved tremendous success under
Mohsin, but we need a qualified coach. Our target is the World Cup for which we want to bring a qualified head coach."
A few sources in the board revealed that PCB is all set to hire Dav Whatmore as the new head coach. He visited Pakistan recently in order to settle down a few things.
However, some former cricketers believe that Mohsin has been doing a great job with the national side and should be named as a permanent coach.
Controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said, "I don’t see any reason for changing a winning combination. Mohsin and Misbah have formed a great team they have gelled the players together and we are winning. So what is the problem, why change
the coach."
One thing Mohsin’s admirers forget is that the Men in Green enjoyed same level of success even when he was not the coach. The main reason behind the team’s recent rise is the captaincy of Misbah, who is ready to work with any individual in the management.
