Shoaib Malik called in for the ODI and the T20 series against England
Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 10:19:03 by Ahmed BabarAfter a splendid performance during the Test series against England, the Green side has announced its final roster for the coming ODI and T20 series.
The two all-rounders, Abdur Razzaq and Shoaib Malik were not included in the squad initially. However, the off spinner has now been called in to represent the team for coming events.
Shoaib Malik made his One-Day International debut against West Indies back in 1999 and his Test debut in 2001 against Bangladesh. Malik appeared in his first T20 match against England at Bristol and the year was 2006.
He has represented Pakistan in as many as 32 Test matches with a batting average of 33.45, his highest score being 148.
Malik played an exact number of 200 ODI’s and has a healthy average of 33.26 with top score of 143 and averages 23.50 in the twenty over format of the game with a highest score of 52.
The 30-year-old helped Pakistan on a number of occasions with his bat and also holds 139 ODI wickets to his credit.
His most recent ODI performance was against Bangladesh on December 6th 2011 and although Malik failed to make an impression with his bat, his off spinners were too good for the opposing side. He bowled four overs with 2 maidens and took 3 important wickets with an economy rate of 1.5.
His brilliant performance helped the team with a convincing victory of 58 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.
Shoaib made his most recent T20 appearances on November 29th, 2011 against Bangladesh. The right handed batsmen got out cheaply once again contributing only 2 runs in the total. Malik bowled two overs during the match and claimed two important during the match.
He will now accompany the strong Pakistan ODI side including Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Junaid Khan, Umar Gul, Aizaz Cheema, Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, Wahab Riaz, Hammad, Azam, Azhar Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, Umar Akmal, Asad Shafiq and Adnan Akmal (wk).
He is also considered for the 20 over format of the game and will join the side with Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, Umar Akmal, Asad Shafiq, Adnan Akmal (wk), Junaid Khan, Umar Gul, Aizaz Cheema, Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, Wahab Riaz, Hammad Azam and Awais Zia.
Only time will tell if Shoaib can make an impression against the English side as there is no doubt about his capabilities.
He has entertained the audience with his numerous jaw dropping performances over the years and he has all the abilities to take the game away from the opposition any time.
Malik has an impressive record against India and four out of seven centuries are against the Indian side. His four hundreds include 143 in 2004, 108 in 206, 125* in 2008 and 128 in 2009.
With Asia cup around the corner, the England series is probably the best time for him to fine-tune for the coming event scheduled from March 12 to 22, 2012.
