Tablets at War: Amazon Kindle Fire vs. Barnes & Noble Nook Color
Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 1:39:59 by Usman KhalidThe Apple iPad hit market in 2010 and with it came the hording bunch of other tablets wanting to create their space in the world. But many of such devices failed to make a mark in the market, some even failed to get noticed among the users.
However, that does not mean that the market does not have the potential for mobile computing and the use of slates on the go. The main contender in this segment still remains the iPad and iPad 2 but since the price factor has come into the equation, some of the cheap and able tablets have started to give the likes of iPad a run for their money.
This market was created by two players in particular. Though iPad still remains the king of the segment, Amazon and Barnes & Noble have started lure potential customer toward their inexpensive products, in addition to creating a new segment for 7-inch display tablets.
Amazon released its 7-inch Kindle Fire late last year but the duration was not an issue for an Android tablet that cost only $199. The slate was such a big hit in market that it reigned the holiday season with purchase as gifts. On the other hand, its direct rival, in every sense of the word, Barnes & Noble released Nook Color near the start of October quarter.
Both rivalling slates have the same Android operating system which is massively tweaked to the liking of the owners. However, the interface quality remains Amazon’s plus in the competition. With more storage, the Kindle Fire goes two notches above Nook. However, with external SD card option, sleek design and extra RAM gives the Nook advantage.
The Fire is comparatively thicker than the Nook and for that reason it is a little heavier as well. But these are negligible aspects when the price and features are concerned. The Fire is $50 cheaper than the Nook Color and has a host of applications for those users who are already in the Amazon ecosystem or are planning to indulge themselves into it.

I think you mean to compare the Nook Tablet which came out last October. The Tablet is an upgrade from the Nook Color which has been out over over a year.
