How the Pakistan National Team should line-up for upcoming friendlies – Part 3
Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 4:52:57 by Shahrukh SohailNewspakistan analyzes how Pakistan should line-up for the upcoming friendlies in the 3rd and final part of the feature series.
Left-Wing: Ahmed Akbar Khan
The strongly-built attacker made his debut last year under the tutelage of Tariq Lutfi, who despite the player’s obvious talents chose to keep him on the bench for most of the time. However his cameo role against Bangladesh proved that he has the quality
to become a top player and would shine if given the chance.
This writer also observed the 18-year-old during training and it was clearly evident that with his physique and silky ball skills, he could prove to be a big hit with the National team. As no local or other foreign player has cemented the left-wing role,
it’s a golden opportunity for Khan to showcase his talents and earn a berth in the starting eleven.
Striker: Kaleemullah
After some truly horrendous outings during Lutfi’s tenure, Kaleemullah was given a new lease of life in the SAFF Cup. His dribbling ability was quite noteworthy during the tournament, as he often embarked on a dazzling solo run and jinxed past defenders
with uncanny ease. However he certainly needs to improve his passing and finishing skills if he is to become an automatic pick.
On several occasions, the KRL man demonstrated his abilities and got into great position but the lack of a killer touch often proved to be his bane. But under the guidance of Zavisa Milosavljevic, he is sure to polish up on his attacking sense quite a bit.
Striker: Hassan Bashir
The Denmark-based forward failed to make his bow in the scrapped Indo-Pak series and also missed out on Pakistan’s SAFF campaign. However there is no doubting his talents and he would be an immense addition to the Green-Shirts, who have been struggling for
goals despite their defensive solidarity.
If Bashir is indeed included in the team for the friendlies, there is little doubt that Pakistan would be able to record a significant victory on the 29th of February.
