Islamabad: (Wednesday, February 08, 2012) National Assembly of Pakistan today has once again deferred the 20th Constitution amendment bill.
Although all the major political players in the National Assembly are through negotiations to reach to a conclusion, but there have been news of a deadlock among the representatives of big political parties.
However, today, while talking about the progress on the consensus for 20th Constitutional amendment, Pakistan People’s Party’s central leader, Khursheed Shah denied any deadlock over the matter. He claimed that a broader
consensus was taking place and soon all the stakeholders will agree on a way forward.
He told the reporters that there have been suggestions and recommendations from all sides to proceed with the matter. He said, “However, it is possible that leadership of our party or of the opposition may not agree on these recommendations.”
Khursheed Shah said that Prime Minister will be briefed about the progress made on the matter.
Hinting towards the fact that major issues were still to be taken care of before heading towards a mutual consensus, Shah said, “Both the government and opposition would hold consultations with their respective leaderships.” He,
however, said that the matter was expected to be solved within one to two days.
Giving somewhat different viewpoint, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the deadlock had only been melted; he also added that progress was made on his party’s recommendations during
the negotiations.
The leader of the opposition further added that by tomorrow, it will become clear whether the two sides had reached to a conclusion.
