Pak, Iran, Afghan summit: A need of the hour
Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 9:59:13 by Sharjeel AhmadThe three neighbouring nations; Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, who are set to be the biggest players after the US endgame, have called a trilateral summit to discuss the issues of common interest and regional cooperation. Pakistan is going to host this
event on February 16. The presidents of three states will join hands and heads to figure out what they can gain once America pulls out of Afghanistan and how they can live with peace and prosperity while protecting one another’s interests.
This is indeed the right and ripe time to do all this. The trio has taken a nice decision. At this juncture, when America is thinking to wrap up a decade-old ‘war on terror’, these three countries can personate a significant role in ensuring peace in the
region in the long run and hampering India’s nefarious designs to meddle into Afghanistan on the name of reconstruction and development.
Everybody knows that the trio is enriched with natural resources including fossil fuels, metals and water treasures. These resources are so enough that they can cater the energy and agricultural needs of the region for hundreds of years provided they are
exploited properly and fairly.
Moreover, threesome holds great strategic importance in international trade. Strait of Hurmoz and Gawadar Port can jointly halt almost 60 percent of the trade activities. Just imagine how strong their position will be if they do so. As far as Afghanistan
is concerned, it is the main trade corridor between India and the Central Asian nations. Pakistan’s trade conveys also need the same route. Thus, it can get unbelievable advantages by cashing out this blank cheque properly.
Apart from all these things, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran have a lot to share among themselves. Both Pakistan and Afghanistan can perk up their industrial and agricultural growth by using Iran’s cheap gas. Furthermore, they can exchange of number of trade
commodities and earn huge revenues.
One thing which I would like to suggest on this forum is that the trio must join hands with China and form a strong regional bloc which will surely be a rock-solid defence against intrusions and a great cash card for the region.
The tree heads of the states, who are going to meet by the end of next week, should not waste this opportunity in media sessions and showpiece gossips, rather they must think, plan and decide the fate of the region seriously. It is indeed a need of the hour.
