After a deadlock of more than two months, Pakistan Army has finally agreed to resume talks with the Nato, ISAF and Afghan forces.
Representatives of Pakistan Army, on Wednesday held a meeting with Nato and Afghan Army officials at a border coordination centre in Torkham. In the meeting, the officials from the both sides discussed ways to improve border security and coordination
so that the incidents like November 26 could be avoided in the future.
Director General Military Operations Major General Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed represented the Pakistan Army in the meeting.
This was the first time one-on-one meeting between Pakistan Army and Nato forces since the deadly US airstrikes on a Salala check post that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers and injured several others on Nov 26 last year.
In the aftermath of the unprovoked air attacks, Pakistan closed Nato supply routes to Afghanistan and also ordered US forces out of Shamsi air Base as relations between Pakistan and the United States plunged to their lowest point in years.
However, the latest meeting between the three forces is a sign that tension between Islamabad and Washington is easing.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting was held in an effort to improve border coordination between the three forces.
“The meeting is part of a tripartite engagement to discuss and improve various coordination measures on Pak-Afghan border,” said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement published on Wednesday.
However, spokesman for the ISAF in Kabul, General Carsten Jacobson expressed ignorance on any such meeting, when approached to comment.
