Apple receives warning from Greenpeace reports
Thursday, February 9th, 2012 6:01:10 by Farasat AliGreenpeace has noted that the great technology and Internet companies are not following them in terms of their environmental policy. In their latest rankings, Google have climbed up to the first place while Apple and Facebook are
struggling at the moment.
"It has not demonstrated leadership or elected to pursue market opportunities to drive IT energy solutions that many of its competitors have, despite record profits and large cash reserves." Greenpeace said about Apple in a press
statement
According to Greenpeace, Apple, despite its size and excellent financial situation does not give steps to improve its environmental policy. Facebook, have reportedly missed a top spot though.
The company has announced a reduction in dependence on power companies that use coal and install a storage server in Sweden near the Arctic Circle. Cisco is the second company with the best note in the above table with 49 points,
four behind Google while Telefonica has 11.
Greenpeace began assessing the ecological impact of the technology industry in 2009. Since then policy making has improved, but they have also tightened the criteria for assessing the green organization.
They tend to see the materials used in the manufacturing companies of computers or mobiles, even their recycling systems. They also calculate greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on global warming.
Another parameter that Greenpeace measures is energy, to check whether they are appropriately using energy or not. According to a study, the technology sector accounts for 2% of the gases emitted on Earth.
IBM, Alcatel followed by Cisco, Google, Dell and Wipro are on the top of lost for appropriately using energy while Fujitsu, Ericsson and Cisco are amongst the prominent companies that are known for providing tips to reduce energy
dependence.
However, the set of criteria, the company cleaner of the year turns out to be Google (53 out of 100), followed by Cisco (49) Ericsson and Fujitsu (48). Google’s energy footprint was 1.46 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, the
same amount as in 2010.
These analyzes depends upon having fulfilling the responsibilities to provide data to Greenpeace, and committing with them achieving goals in the coming years. However, in the technology sector, the date has not been provided as
compared to previous years , such as Apple.
