Apple rumoured to release a 15-inch model to Macbook Air – Part 2
Thursday, February 9th, 2012 5:35:45 by Usman KhalidThe latest development in rumours revealed recently that Apple is looking to incorporate the Retina Display in the Air line-up and that begs the question; will apple go for RD in the 15-inch model as well? Because RD means a fatter console to hold 332 ppi resolution and that might risk the thickness of the device.
The larger size might make room for optical drive in the 15-inch model but in this regard, the company loses the coherence in the line-up, one model with a DVD peripheral and one without. That does not go with the Apple dogma quite well.
However, optical drive or not optical drive, the 15-inch model is direly needed in the market. The big display will not hurt the users in a bus or a train or airplane. But will it be successful as HP Folio or Asus Zenbook.
The 13-inch model costs in the neighbourhood of $1200 and the 15-inch model will have even more costly price tag. The HP Folio is, on the other hand, under $1000 cap and is quite attractive for that matter.
There are many players in the market these days to compete with the Air line and the 15-inch model will see even fiercer competition. The Folio has an optical drive to give it a spark, whereas Toshiba Protégé is slimmer than Macbook Air and is even more attractive. The main selling point of the Air is its operating system and ease-of-use on the trackpad, whereas the price factor keeps most of the customers on the bay.
Will the new device be a success in the market, is the question that will only be answered when the machine comes out. The price factor however, will play a vital role in making or breaking the big brother in the Air family.
