Smartphones vs. Tablets: What is your best choice
Thursday, February 9th, 2012 5:22:29 by Usman KhalidBook reading has taken a new turn in the last two to three years. The conventional style of book reading has been changed to new and more feasible and inexpensive e-reading, thanks to Amazon for the bombardment of e-books into the market.
However, there are many options e-readers these days as compared to 2007 and 2008, when there were only desktops, laptops and Kindle for reading the books electronically. Now there are smartphones, e-readers and tablets to fulfil that desire. Although notebooks and desktop are still considered options, but they the last ones.
In terms of mobile devices, there are two contenders in that category instead of one as many would mistake. Now that the market is waterlogged with LED screens from 3.7- to 5.5-inch, they are also considered some of the best choices for reading books and online content, especially on the go.
Except a GSM capability, the tablet-makers are working their heads off to compete with contemporary cell phones. The Galaxy Note is one of the best examples to quote in this regard. The smartphone is the best amalgamation of tablet and phone, and the stylus proves to be the icing.
As far as the book reading goes, tablets are the best choice but the only advantage they have is the screen size but Galaxy Note has proven that it can also be covered in the smartphones.
The iPhone 4 and 4S have also proven that they are direct competitors of tablets like the iPad. These smartphones carry the Retina display that is sharper than the iPad and iPad 2. It has 332 ppi resolution in a 3.7-inch screen that gives the extra edge to the phone in terms of reading content and books.
The iPad 2 has a dual-core chip whereas the iPhone 4S has the same and gaming is not a problem on both devices, then why purchase a device that does not have a phone and is at least a hundred dollars expensive than the iPhone.
The only competitive advantage that now remains is the dock compatibility of the tablets. However, that is aptly fulfilled by laptops that are cheaper and even more efficient than the tablets.
So, when you are going to purchase a new device for reading books and playing games, what is going to be your choice?
