Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan today summoned the Federal Minister for Defence and Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) to appear before the court in missing persons’ case on Monday, February 13.
Headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, the three-member bench heard the case about the persons who are believed to be illegally detained by the intelligence agencies.
Proceeding with the hearing, the court ordered the agencies to produce the remaining seven missing persons still alive before the court or be ready for a legal action.
According to reports, four of the seven still alive detainees were released from Lady Reading Hospital today and were being sent to Islamabad. The other three still there with the agencies held at a detention centre in Parachinar
were also transported to Islamabad but could not reach on time due to bad weather conditions, it was learnt.
The court waited for all seven missing persons till 5:30 and then adjourned the hearing till Feb 13. Besides the chief secretary KPK and the Defence Minister, the court has also ordered the detainees to be produced at the next
hearing.
Regarding the safety of the missing persons, the court advised the Director General Inter Services Intelligence to take care of it and ensure their presence in the court in the next hearing.
During the hearing, the chief justice remarked that if the Prime Minister of the country could appear before the court, why could anyone else not?
