Politics of relief in Pakistan

The present government, to which the masses look to in hope for some relief in their daily lives, has been centre of criticism and was being besieged by opposition parties and other state organs.
It is even difficult to consider any government anywhere in the world being able to deliver while its very endurance is so often under menace. However, the situation is even shoddier when the government, the masses look to in hope, offers only the minutest of self-interested ascendancy.
As the next general elections are approaching, the core committee of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) met on the other day, taking a decision to provide relief to the people in the upcoming fiscal budget.
The logics behind the move are not difficult to figure out. The word ‘Relief’ through budgetary measures is a slightly obscured reference to support politics while the budget shake-up will aid appease allies in a bulky coalition.
It is quite hardly concern what constitutes sound and responsible policy and the politics. Of course, all sides and parties are responsible what the country is facing in the present scenario.
The four-year regime of PPP-led coalition government cannot be blamed for structural and systematic flaws that put off the country and its people from carrying into action their potency.
Hitherto, it is certainly the cased that the PPP has aggravated the plight for both itself and the people of Pakistan. The crudeness of patronage politics under the existing government is unsettling as it cannot be wished away as a tool of survival.
Rural areas of the country will be centre of attention whether through favorable agricultural pricing or social protection tactics. While the virtual ignoring of the urban sector squeezed hard by job losses, inflation and power shortages has worsened the economic downtrend.
The entire population has been at danger of an economic bankruptcy by irresponsibly adding to government borrowing without escalating revenues in any considerable way.
The need of the hour is to bring skilled and motivated individuals in positions of power and influence if a cabinet shake-up is really required. Pandering to coalition allies will only worsen the country’s predicament.
