The year 2011 was a great year for a number of publishers as EA, Activision and Ubisoft all saw personal records broken by the a number of games.
Electronic Arts
More commonly referred to and known as EA, the publishing giant saw their latest title in their long running series, Battlefield 3, break the company record for the fastest selling game.
Battlefield 3 had 3-million copies pre-ordered and a further two million were sold soon after its release. The figures were something EA had never seen before.
EA Sports
A subdivision of EA, the studio was responsible for the development of FIFA 12, which also set a record as being the company’s bestselling sports title in the company’s history.
The game outsold its closest competitor, Pro Evolution Soccer 2012, by a ratio of 25 to 1.
Ubisoft
The studio has been growing steadily over the years and ever since it jumped into the current generation of consoles, has had tremendous success with a number of its IPs.
One such IP is the Assassin’s Creed series and Revelations broke the company’s record of being Ubisoft’s fastest selling game.
In fact, the game made as much as the two titles before it in the space of just two weeks. It also ended the year as one of the best selling games of 2011.
Activision
This is the big one, as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 not only broke series’ record of $620-million, which had been set by Black Ops.
In fact, Modern Warfare 3 earned a staggering $775-million in just five days and set a new record for the fastest selling entertainment product of all time, beating out the Hollywood blockbuster, Avatar.
The game has not stopped selling since and revenues from the game saw the publisher record a net profit of over $1-billion, which is more than just a little impressive, especially during a global economic crisis.
