Islamabad: (Monday, February 13, 2012) The National Assembly here today condemned the US Congress’ hearing on Balochistan and declared it as an intervention in Pakistan’s internal affairs.
Tabled by the opposition leader in the House, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the resolution was adopted unanimously.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s foreign office has also expressed its displeasure on the issue and has protested after calling up US Charge d’Affairs, Richard Hoagland.
The resolution, presented today, categorically stated, “The house rigorously condemns and does not accept the hearing by the US congress and considers any such attempt an open intervention in state’s sovereignty and its internal
affairs”.
Considering the already existing chasm and coldness in the bilateral ties of the two countries, the resolution noted that the hearing will further distance both the countries and thus, it was imperative to discourage such steps
which could exacerbate the already deteriorated relationships.
Earlier, the leader of the opposition also lamented the fact that the law and order situation in Balochistan was worrisome and was heading towards East Pakistan like incident.
To him, the government’s inability to act upon the parliamentary resolutions only contributed in making the situation deplorable, and thus, a third country was taking benefit for increasing the ethnic divide in the country. He
said, “Why US couldn’t see these human rights violations in Musharraf era…?
