Chairman of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif has severely condemned the ruling political party, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for not cooperating with judiciary.
Slamming the PPP-led coalition government for having inapt attitude towards judiciary, the PML-N chief said that the sitting government has made a mockery of democracy in the country.
Speaking to the media representatives on Monday, Sharif demanded the government to write a letter to the Swiss authorities – as required by the Supreme Court (SC) – so that the people’s money could be brought back to the country from Swiss banks.
"What is the harm in writing a letter to the Swiss government?" asked Sharif, referring to the crores of money allegedly stashed away by Pakistan politicians in Swiss banks. "This money is the people’s money and should be brought back. It’s only if this
letter is writen that the money can be returned. Why is the government scared of writing this letter?" the PML-N chief argued.
"Is the government’s committment towards the people or with those who looted this country? The PM should think this through and decide which way he should go," he added further.
The former Pakistan Prime Minister said that the coalition partners of PPP-led government were equally responsible for not putting enough pressure on the government on this issue. Nawaz Sharif urged Gilani to think and act according to his oath.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, for the first time in the history of country, was charged by the Supreme Court for refusing to comply its order to reopen old corruption cases against his party chief and the incumbent President of the country, Asif
Ali Zardari.
A seven-member panel of judges charged him with contempt and ff convicted, the beleaguered prime minister could face six months in jail besides losing his job.
Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i Insaaf (PTI), Imran Khan came out strongly against Prime Gilani asking the latter to step down immediately.
"PM Gilani must step down immediately. Both President (Asif Ali) Zardari and Gilani are corrupt," said Khan when reached for a comment.
