French veteran strike, Thierry Henry, made a stunning return at the Arsenal FC as he gave them crucial three points after scoring a late goal against Sunderland.
Henry, who played for the Red Army from 1999-2007, made a fairytale return to the Gunners after scoring against Leeds United in his second debut. On February 4th, he netted his second goal and his first league goal since his return at the Emirates
Stadium. The Frenchman fired the seventh goal for his side, mustering a 7-1 victory against Blackburn Rovers.
In his last Premier League game the following week, Henry notched up a crucial stoppage time goal which led the Gunners secured a top-four spot in the Premier League. It also earned Arsenal three points, lowering the trail against the League toppers – Manchester
City and Manchester United.
The Black Cats took the initial lead when McClean scored in 70 minutes. However, the captain of Wales, Aaron Ramsey, equalised the scores after five minutes. The match was at knife edge in the stoppage time when the Great Henry scored in 92 minutes and led
his side to glory.
“It was so special for me – to be able to celebrate with all the Arsenal fans, who had come such a long way – it really was magical. But now we look ahead to Milan. It’s never easy to win away in the Champions League and all we want is to get some momentum.
I’m sure the lads want to go all the way,” the legendary gunner was quoted after the match.
The Legendary figure, whose statue was recently built in front of the Emirates Stadium on Arsenal’s 125th anniversary, was excited at his return. He re-lived his experience in London and gave boost to Gunners who made their worst premier League
start this season.
“Will I be emotional? When it comes to Arsenal I am always emotional,” the 34-year-old told The Sun. “It was an amazing feeling on Saturday. When I was warming up the fans started clapping. Where does this goal rank? Of course, some are more special
than others. I was just at the end of a great cross but it was me, it was the last minute and it is a great story. But the most important thing are the three points and we can go forward now, with me in the team or not.”
The Les Ulis native is eying to give the Invincibles a perfect parting gift by crushing the Italian side, AC Milan, in the last sixteen of the UEFA Champions League. It will be Henry’s last match for Arsenal and he wants to have best ending with his former
side.
