Islamabad take on Sindh in U-14 final
Tuesday, February 14th, 2012 1:25:32 by Shahrukh SohailIslamabad take on Sindh in the U-14 final of the National championship at the Jinnah Stadium today.
The two sides have definitely earned their berths in the finale of the prestigious tournament, with Sindh comfortably securing their passage with a 4-0 demolition of Karachi Zone B.
Meanwhile, their opponents Islamabad had to endure a tense affair against Punjab, despite taking the lead early on. Forward Bahlol Khan put his side 1-0 up on the 25th minute but Farrukh drew the visitor’s level a couple of minutes later.
However there was late drama as Hassam Mehmood grabbed the winner on the 40th minute and ensured that his side make it to the final of the Championship.
PFF President Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat is expected to be the chief guest on the occasion and has voiced his backing for the tournament before hand, saying that the nurturing of young talent would enable Pakistan to rise up the ranking and perhaps even
qualify for major competitions in the next few years or so.
“PFF has introduced PFF Vision 2020 Plan which the PFF has unveiled on 21 June 2008 will take Pakistan to new height. This ambitious plan will create pavement to PFF in earning berth in top 15 Asian teams as well earning tickets of World Cup, Olympics and
FIFA age-limit competitions in coming decade,” he said.
Pakistani youngsters have always had the potential to become the cream of the continent as demonstrated by their SAFF Cup triumph last year but due to a lack of facilities, proper pitches and a well run system, their development has been stagnant.
The U-14 Championship is expected to bring out the best in the starlets, but it remains to be seen what a mini-tournament running only 3-4 weeks can do in the long-run for the Green-Kickers.
