Islamabad: (Tuesday, February 14, 2012) After American ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter publically admitting that Nato supplies through Pakistan air were continue and after vehement denial to this statement by Federal Minister
for Interior, Rehman Malik, the defence ministry officials in a public gathering today admitted that Pakistan had allowed the Nato to use its airspace to resume its supplies two months ago.
Quoting the minister for defence as saying at a gathering in Islamabad, a defence ministry official said “The permission has been given for food items. Since the food items were perishable, we have allowed them to transport them
by air to Afghanistan.
“We have told them to take the supplies out by air and don’t bring more for the time being” said the official on condition of anonymity.
Pakistan shut all the Nato supplies through its land routes after US/Nato forces attacked the Salala check posts last year which left 24 Pakistani soldiers martyred.
Ahmed Mukhtar, however, was also quoted saying, “the decision to fully restore all kind of supplies to the neighbouring country rests with the parliament.”
Meanwhile, after a fierce reaction from Pakistan, the US has distanced itself from the Congressional hearing on Balochistan. The Acting US Ambassador to Pakistan, Richard Hoagland said that Washington fully respected Pakistan’s
geographical boundaries.
Hoagland was also reported saying that the US was eagerly waiting for Pakistan’s new policy guidelines on bilateral ties between the two countries. He also informed the reporters that America was mulling over providing Pakistan
five new aeroplanes worth $ 1.5 billion by the year 2015.
