The Commonwealth Bank Series continues as India and Srilanka lock horns for second time in the competition on Tuesday, February 14, at the Adelaide Oval. Srilanka won the toss and elected to bat first on a surface which was previously used for India-Australia
game and Indian won batting second. However, Srilankan captain thought that the pitch might deteriorate while batting last, so it would be wise making first use of the strip.

Srilanka left out Dhamika Prasad of the starting XI in place of left arm spinner, Rangana Herath, while India made two changes in the form of Irfan Pathan and Sachin Tendulkar. The duo came in as a replacement for Zaheer Khan and Virendar Sehwag.

Upul Tharanga continued his miserable form with another duck to his name. He was caught behind of Vinay Kumar in the first over. Kumar Sangakkara walked on to the pitch quite early and resurrected the innings to some extent before his losing his partner,
Tillikaratne Dilshan. The former skipper made 16 runs before edging a catch behind to Mahinder Singh Dhoni of Pathan.

In form Dinesh Chandimal walked in to support Sangakkara and played a fluent knock in helping Srilanka rebuild their innings.  Just when the Lankans were looking set to score a big total, Sangakkara lost his cool and looped a simple catch to Gautam Gambhir
of Ravichandran Ashwin. Mahela Jayawardena walked in under immense pressure as the new skipper had been short on runs of late.

However, Jayawardena never allowed the pressure to get better of him and played in his usual manner to ease his way to 43 before falling leg before wicket to Vinay Kumar. The Srilankan ship started to sink with the unfortunate run out of Chandimal; who was
once again looking impressive and made a rapid 81 of 91 balls. This was Chandimal’s third successive half century of the competition.

Sachithra Senanayake provided much needed resistance in the lower order with the individual best of 22 from 14 balls as the World Cup 2011 semi-finalists managed to score 236-9 from their allotted quota of 50 overs. Vinay Kumar picked up 3/46 in 10 while
Ashwin picked up 2/30 from his 10 overs.
