M S Dhoni: A marketing goldmine

Success does not come alone but it brings a lot more in its wake. Featuring celebrities, whether from media or sports, in brands promotion is one of the strongest marketing tactics. Before and during the every edition of ICC Cricket World Cup, the cricketers
get big deals and lucrative contracts with handsome remunerations from the top brands which use them for their promotions and advertising campaigns. But in the end, the World Champions become the marketing goldmines and media spotlights just like Mahendra
Singh Dhoni, the skipper of winning India, who has turned to be a blue-eyed boy of every ace brand in India and abroad.

Dhoni had already been a brand ambassador of world’s top 20 brands. During the tournament, the cricket lovers could watch him not only on field but also in adds that appeared on TV screens in an over breaks. From these advertisements, Dhoni got millions
of dollars and the brands got sale rise to a large extent. The World Cup is over and Dhoni is World Champion, every brand is vying for Dhoni for its promotion.

In these days, Dhoni is the busiest Indian player, signing contracts, going for shots, appearing in media interviews and thinking of new and impressive ways to make TV screen his cup of tea.  He has signed two contracts worth of $42 million with two sports
management companies. Now, it will not be wrong to say that Dhoni has the wealthiest of all the 15-man squad that has lifted the World Cup Trophy.

In the coming days, Dhoni’s going to be more busy as polls are going to start in five Indians states from Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Pudcherry and Dhoni poses to be the brand ambassador of Indian Election Commission. Dhoni has been performing
this role since 2009, visiting different areas and urging the people to vote as it is their democratic right in the biggest democracy of the world. This time, he is likely to get strong response from the cricket crazy India public. Before Dhoni, the ex-captain,
Sourav Ganguly, had been doing this job.

Dhoni, during his seven-year-old career, has made great achievements and earned a fair name for himself and for his country. Since he held the reins of the captaincy, India has made many marks in the history of cricket. Under Dhoni’s leadership, India bagged
the Trophy of T20 World 2007 and then he marvelously led his side to claim the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy for the second time. India is honoured to be the first host country to become the World Champion.

India exhibited tremendous and stunning performance throughout the tournament. They passed the group stage with 9 points and then beat and kicked the four times World Champion, Australia, out of the tournament. The biggest success for India was to defeat
their archrival, Pakistan, in the semi-final game. At last, India outplayed Sri Lanka in the final game and lifted the most prestigious award of the game. Dhoni showed very responsible and sensible play in the final game. It was his 91 score that steered his
side to win. Dhoni ended the 6 week World Cup campaign with his sterling six towards long on.
