Toshiba unveils the thinnest tablet
Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 6:05:29 by Farasat AliToshiba does not want to miss out in the battle of the tablets from the technology-lovers market. The Japanese brand, which is among the leaders of the notebook segment and ultrabooks in Spain, has failed to provide their users
tablets as compared to the best sellers, Samsung and Apple.
Now they have presented AT200 model, it is one of the thinnest product amongst all the tablets (7.7 mm thick) and light weighted (535 grams) as well.
With a 10-inch screen, it has high definition LED technology, which runs on Android OS 3.2, with significant processing power thanks to a dual core processor at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM and 32 GB internal memory.
It has micro USB, micro SD, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and a micro-HDMI port to transfer HD content to a TV screen. However it does not include 3G. In the meanwhile, It has two high definition cameras: one with 5 megapixels and a 2 megapixel
at front, which support video for various applications.
The price for the product is just 499 Euros and it will be sold on the open market because it is yet to reach any agreement with the mobile operators.
Toshiba wants to jump into the tablet market not only to fill a gap in their catalogue but because of the consumers, particularly in Spain. Given that the Spanish users are technology lovers and statistics prove that they download
most application in the world.
There’s little arguing the fact that people are shifting rapidly from traditional laptop and notebooks to tablets and ultrabooks (mixture of light and portable tablet). Thus, the laptop market has fallen 9% in 2011 and is expected
to decline 15% in 2012.
In the meanwhile, it is expected that the sale of the tablets will reach between 700,000 and one million units, this year.
The director of marketing Toshiba, Ivan Sanchez said: "It’s our first tablet premium,"
Meanwhile, the CEO, Alberto Ruano, is convinced they will find a good share in the niche market dominated by Apple and Samsung.
"We have achieved in the segment of ultra light notebooks in which we already have 38% share. The tablets will be a complement to the ultrabooks and will cannibalize the netbook.” he said.
