HP Pavilion dm4-3090se: A complete review – Part 2
Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 5:11:25 by Usman KhalidAlthough the screen is sized at 14 inches, diagonally, it is nestled inside a 13-inch chassis. This tradition of fixing a larger screen inside a comparatively smaller case is slowly becoming a standard more than a tradition.
The keyboard although spreads over a 13-inch chassis but is not at all finicky in usage. The keys are separated appropriately and are backlit in red colour, which goes hand-in-hand with the Beats logo. Although red colour gives an odd feeling to the eyes in the dark but is an added advantage within a reasonable price bracket, nonetheless.
The trackpad and wrist rest also have a matte finish to them but are distinguishable in palette of all the gismos. The trackpad is not that efficient on multi gestures as compared to Macbooks but it competes with other foes in the market.
The Beats Audio system is installed with a reinforced sound card. The casing is a little thick as compared to other actors in the market but it brings a subwoofer in addition to stereo speakers. The tray also has a dedicated Beats button that works as an audio control as well. The logo ‘B’ has been replaced with the name Beats and it upon pressing pops up the audio menu on the screen.
The dm4 embraces the same Core i5 (dual-core) processor as HP Envy clocked at 2.5 GHz and has the same 6 GB DDR3 of internal memory that has a clock speed of 1.3 GHz. The storage device in the dm4 is however, a hybrid unlike the Envy that has a solid state drive. There is a traditional magnetic hard drive with a capacity of 500 GBs and an auxiliary solid state device with the capacity of 20 GBs for installed programs.
HP offers the base model of dm4 at nominal price of $899, which is quite cheap. However, that is only $150 less than HP Envy that is slimmer and has 740 GB of solid state hard drive.
