Samsung Galaxy Note: A detailed review of the biggest smartphone in the market – Part 1

Samsung released Note, the biggest smartphone in the company’s signature Galaxy line, in October 2011. Not only is the Note biggest Galaxy phone but is also one of the biggest in the market with its 5.3-inch Super AMOLED screen.

However, the phone does not only bring a big screen to the table but a lot of new features like the stylus that might be an old school tech but works marvellously on the capacitive touch screen.

The 5.3-inch mammoth of a screen is also full HD and supports videos in up to 1080p resolution. So does the 8 mega-pixel camera at the back that can capture full-HD video. However, on the down side, the snapper takes comparatively softer and less brighter pictures when compared to its foes running hot streaks in the market. Even its younger sibling, Galaxy SII Skyrocket takes flamboyant and colourful pictures.

The Note also vaguely resembles with the SII Skyrocket in looks but under the hood are a number of features that make it a better handset worth every penny spent. The hand gestures and applications pool are just some of them.

However, first the size of the handset. For users who have smaller hands, like me, would feel the Note a big, over weight baby and it is also not very suitable for front pants pockets, much less the chest pocket. But all these shortcomings, or what should be called the oversize, are left in the rear mirror when it comes to the functionalities of this piece of electronic.

Since its launch, the Note has been taken as a substitute to the tablets. It has germinated a new terminology, Phablet—an amalgamation of tablet and phone—but that is a verdict that has been issued before hand.
