England’s middle-order batsman Ravi Bopara has said that he is enjoying his role in the One Day International (ODI) side. He scored back to back half-centuries against Pakistan in the opening two games of the series, guiding his team to an unassailable lead
of 2-0.
"Taking responsibility had been a massive thing for me," Bopara said. "We knew we had soak up the pressure as it was going to be tough in the first 15 or 20 minutes. It gets easier as the innings goes on. Once you’re in for about five overs you get
used to the pace of the wicket and the bowlers. Once you give yourself a chance, you have every chance of catching up and scoring at a run a ball."
The Poms had been whitewashed in the three-match Test series and were expected to continue their struggle in the shorter version of the game. However, they did not panic and gave a tough time to Pakistan in the Abu Dhabi ODIs.
England’s skipper Alastair Cook led the team from front, scoring back to back centuries. He was helped by Bopara, who was not a part of the playing eleven in Test matches.
Both Bopara and Cook have been friends since a very long time and the former praised his captain, saying that he has the ability to adopt to different situations.
According to Bopara, "He’s someone I’ve seen adapt so much over his career so far. I’ve played with him since I was 14 or 15 and with the amount he’s changed over the years, there’s no reason why he can’t change and become a T20 player as well. I’ve
seen him play some class T20 knocks for Essex. There’s no reason he can’t do it for England. He’s someone I’ve seen adapt more than anyone in my whole career. Most definitely I think he’s the sort of person who will play for England in T20."
England will now take on Pakistan in Dubai for the final two ODIs and one win will give them the ODI series.
