Prince Fielder and Detroit Tigers: A winning combination

The Detroit Tigers stunned many baseball pundits as they signed slugger Prince Fielder to a mega nine-year deal worth $214 million. It is obvious that the team wants to win and go all the way in the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
For Fielder, it is a dream as he always wanted to play for the Detroit Tigers. The fans love every minute of it, as the Tigers have gotten even stronger than they were last season. Adding a power-house player like Fielder to the team has dramatically changed
the landscape of the American League. Teams like the New York Yankees are taking a close look at the Tigers. Having lost to Detroit in the American League Division Series last year, the Yankees are not going to be taking any chances this time around.
Detroit looks like they want to win it all and they want it now. Investing in players like Fielder not only increases the strength of the line-up but more importantly add some serious star power. The media is swirling around the team covering every aspect
of the team and their players. Another important aspect of bringing on a mega-player like Fielder is that he will set an example for some of the other players to work harder and perform better on the field. When you have a star player the others in the team
automatically start to improve their performance.
When a team spends large amounts of money during the offseason, like the way Detroit did, it is a very clear indication to the other teams in the League that they are ready to take on anyone. As Spring Training rolls around, expect to see the Tigers dominate
the exhibition games and have a devastating impact to the beginning of the 2012 MLB regular season.
The Tigers are already stacked with some tremendously talented players like pitcher Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Jose Valverde and Victor Martinez. After losing Martinez to injury for the 2012 season, the team signed Fielder. In a move that shocked
many critics, the Tigers knew exactly what they wanted and were not afraid to spend for it. Many complain that Fielder might only have a few good years left in him and that his mega-salary might not be entirely justified. However, Prince is coming in to the
Tigers with a tremendous record of 38 home-runs, 120 RBIs, 95 runs and a .299 average. With numbers like these, it is no wonder so many teams were looking to sign Fielder during the offseason.
The real question is how quickly Fielder can adapt to the Tigers’ offence. Many fans are looking forward to seeing the Cabrera-Fielder combination on the field. Spring Training will give a good opportunity to see Fielder wearing a Tigers uniform and slugging
away against some of the League’s top pitching rotations.
For the Tigers, investing in Fielder is a wise move. They are basically not only maintaining their strength but drastically increasing it. As the 2012 MLB regular season creeps closer, the Tigers will be looking to dominate from the start. It will be a surprise
if the Tigers do not make it to the playoffs. If the team stays healthy, the Tigers will have an answer for the Texas Rangers this year. Prince Fielder and the Detroit Tigers are clearly a winning combination for the next few years.
