Top 3 scariest games of all time
Thursday, February 16th, 2012 6:16:51 by Musa AfridiWe take a look at which games made us afraid of the dark and gave our imaginations new monsters to chase us around when we closed our eyes?
Many people think of film as the primary medium through which they get their dosage of scares. Films like the Exorcist, the Amityville Horror and Paranormal Activity have had the most success in making grown adults scream like little girls.
However, on the flipside, which games have had the same pant-staining-ly terrifying effect on gamers?
3. Resident Evil 4: While it may not have been the first time one encountered zombies or a Resident Evil game, the game provided its own unique form of terror.
Whether it was the rural setting that gave of an aura of being isolated, or the zombies who now had the ability to carry weapons or the zombie with a bad on its head and a chainsaw, the game got everyone’s heart pounding at one point or the other.
2. F.E.A.R: there is a famous saying that goes that there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Well, that was the case with the game that was so cleverly titled FEAR.
The first time we laid eyes on the scary little girl, Alma, we immediately opened fire. Seeing that the bullets had no effect on her and that she was walking towards us with a huge fireball following us, we started backing up.
The rest of the game had its moments as well, but our introduction to Alma will haunt us for the rest of our gaming lives.
1. Dead Space: While Dead Space 2 had its moments, they were not as tense or terrifying as the first game and that was down to the fact that no one knew what to expect from the original game.
It started off full of action and within the first ten minutes had the players unarmed through dark corridors being chased by God knows what at the same time.
The game would go on to have a number of moments that had the player pause the game and calm himself down whilst constantly repeating to himself, ‘it’s only a game, it’s only a game.’
