Zardari assures Iranian head of continued support

The government of Pakistan ruled by the Pakistan People’s Party assured its counterpart in Iran that assistance will not be provided to the United States of America in case it decides to attack Iran.

The reassurance was given to the Iranian leader President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad by the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari where the two leaders met and talked at the third trilateral summit that took place in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad. The third
country participating in the summit was Afghanistan, which was represented by its leader, Hamid Karzai.

The President of Pakistan assured Iran of its support by stating that air bases from Pakistan will not be provided to the military of the United States in the event that the super power decides to attack Iran.

The relationship between the United States and Pakistan reached their lowest in the previous decade last year when the NATO forces carried out an unprovoked attack on two of the Pakistani border posts. The attack was carried out for a period of two hours
during which 24 of the Pakistani soldiers lost their lives. The Pakistani military had been repeatedly sending requests to its NATO counter parts during the course of the attack to make them come to a stop but to no avail.

The military of Pakistan termed the attacks as unprovoked acts of aggression by NATO forces while the NATO forces released statements saying that the attacks happened due to error incurred on both the sides of the border. Condolences were given by the NATO
forces as well as the US but no apology.

Asif Ali Zardari expressed his views on the matter in the following manner, "We need to inter-depend on each other and a safe Pakistan is a prosperous Pakistan. Our bilateral relationships cannot be undermined by any international pressure of any kind.”

On the other hand, the comments made by the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the matter were of the following nature, "All countries of the region know that the roots of problems do not exist in the region itself, these problems have been imposed
on our region."
