Android vs. iOS: What is the reason behind Apple’s success in tablet market? – Part 2

One of the major selling points of the Fire was its $199 price tag. The 7-inch display model works marvels and pays back every penny of the money spent. It boasts a state-of-the-art e-reader, web browser and video and music player.

The Fire has one aptly optimized operating system that is configured to the liking of Amazon. But the best part the company’s ecosystem that is waterlogged with attractive deals, vast pool of books and movies and a host of applications dedicated to the Fire. The company has done a splendid job in luring developers to work in Fire’s API.

However, Google and its operating system has little to gain from Fire as the operating system has been massively tweaked to fit the low-spec circuitry of the slate. Although the tablet lacks a number of features that are standard in iPad, like Gyroscope and various multi-gestures, it is still worth all the absences.

Samsung and Asus, on the other hand, have enjoyed limited success in the market despite sporting AMOLED and OLED screens. Samsung has been a successful venture in the smartphone market with its Galaxy series but its tablets have been ousted by iPad single-handedly.

Asus brought the technically most advanced tablet to the market last year. The Eee Pad Transformer Prime centres around a quad-core processor which runs both Android Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich smoothly as compared to other brands. It also has an 8-megapixel camera that can capture 1080p video in full HD.

There are however, certain fallbacks with the Prime. To remain competitive in the tablet market, every slate that does not have a bitten apple on the rear end should be priced within $300 to $400 bracket. Moreover, there are only a handful of applications that justify the purchase of a quad-core processor.

After considering the verdict, companies that need to compete with iPad and survive the battle should bring a smooth and light weight operating system and should price them low as did Amazon on its Kindle Fire.
