Imran Khan and 20th amendment
Friday, February 17th, 2012 4:49:02 by Faisal FarooqPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan would be well advised to consider his words before he speaks them if he wants to be shown as a serious politician with clear and intelligent views.
As head of a party, which has put in a new sense of optimism among many people, the PTI chief is justifiably anxious about the fairness of the next general polls. After evolving a consensus on the formation of a caretaker government to hold the elections, the National Assembly gave approval to the 20th amendment.
Everyone including Imran Khan has a right to disagree with the amendment and can express reservations about its some aspects. However, the PTI chief did not did not explain details of the concerns he disagreed with the amendment.
Without telling interlocutors what precisely was wrong with its and what changes, if any, he wanted, he instead opted to reject the entire 20th Amendment.
The caretaker governments, thus far, have been run by nominated prime ministers. The PPP and PML-N, the two largest parties in Parliament, did a commendable job by sitting together and devising a formula for caretaker setup acceptable to both the government and the opposition parties.
Literally, this parliamentary consensus should be welcomed wide and large. More prominently, the 20th Amendment has sent a clear message to those keen on disgracing democratic system.
Considering these views in the background, the rejection by Imran Khan, the cricketer-turned politician, are unlikely to boost his own credentials as a politician.
He should realise that a strong anti-corruption board does not give him authority to reject even that which is the result of a lawful constitutional process. Speaking about a civil war in a country that already saw one, back in 1971, and which led to its break-up is most unlucky.
Indeed, the recent development was one that strengthens the Election Commission in the country, and in this context, his rejected was needless.

I think you are thoroughly mistaken when you take this power distribution as a positive sign for the country. Both PPP and PMLN are known to cater for personal interests over and above national causes. The chances are some underhand deal or unwritten protocols have been agreed to choose their own appointees in their particular political spheres. This is a conspiracy to maintain the status-quo in the country. The whole Pakistani nation should utterly reject this new legal chicanery from this NRO ridden parliament.
