Designing of the dryer section of nutritional yeast production plant – Industrial sector review – Part 1
The aim of the project is to design the dryer section of nutritional yeast production plant that produces 2,800 tons of protein supplements with 8% w/w moisture per annum. The dryer section runs in continues process for 330 days/year and it constitute of
a dryer, powder removal unit and an Air cleaner unit.
Design requirements lay out in the initial design brief cover the basis for the feed, products and equipment. Initially alternative process unit which can be used to produce the protein supplement powder will be reviewed, and a decision will be made on a
particular process unit which best suits the product requirements and which is also economically viable. Following this, physical and chemical data will be obtained from literature that will be required for more detailed design and to carry out calculations.
Detailed description of the chosen process unit will be included in the report, including any sample calculations. Operation and configuration will be described and methodology of the process will be worked through.
The design of the processing unit selected will allow drawing an overall layout of the section and estimating capital and operating costs. Finally, based on the sections and content of the report, conclusions will be made as to whether the plant is viable
or too costly for the current economic environment.
