The new culture of touch mice
Saturday, February 18th, 2012 6:49:55 by Usman KhalidApple introduced the first-of-the-kind touch-sensitive mice device in2009 that once again proved to be revolutionary. Most of the credit for personal computing goes to Apple for introducing windowed graphics and a mouse with a movable cursor. Now the next generation track-pad-cum-optical mouse, Magic Mouse, is another cog in the company is machine to take the very concept of computing to another level.
Magic Mouse brings more than just moving the cursor and scrolling through the menus. It has a touch sensitive surface that enables the user to use the Macbook track-pad gestures on Mac Pros and iMacs. This however, is less efficient than the track-pad and capacitive touch sensitivity on iPads and iPhones but it still supports multi-tasking, easy scrolling and navigation through tabs on Safari.
However, as it goes with the history of competition in the technology industry, competitors follow suit and release their copycats with their brands slapped on the faces. Logitech, one of the major peripheral devices manufacturers, released their version of touch mouse, Touch Mouse M600, earlier this month.
Microsoft towed the line and launched their version of the device, introducing it to the techies all over the world for expert opinion. The thing with MS is that they are good at replicating gadgets and software with additional gismos embedded in the devices. The Touch Mouse, release by MS, is so far the better choice in the market with a number of addition gestures incorporated in the software.
It is Bluetooth enabled and has a whole language of multi-finger gestures that surely will make scrolling and computing easier than ever. Although the device is compatible with Windows 7 and has full feature support with the operating system but according to experts, it is mainly targeted at the new and upcoming version, the Windows 8.
The new device will be available in the second half of the calendar 2012 for $70 but if the market is searched thoroughly, it might be available for $50 or less.
