President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai has warned Islamabad not to play a “wait and see game” on Afghanistan.
The talks between Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and Karzai, which were described by Rabbani as “Hard and candid”, Karzai requested Pakistan to stop “playing a waiting game”.
During the talks, the Afghan President boldly asked Pakistan to clear its stance in Afghanistan. Karzai demanded that Pakistan should tell what exactly they want to accomplish in Afghanistan.
A high ranked official who was familiar with the talks, said, “He (Karzai) thinks we are not forthcoming on the peace talks with the Taliban. He believes we are waiting to see the Americans leave the region before we play our cards.”
He said that these thoughts were exchanged in the recent interaction between Afghan President and Pakistani leadership.
On the condition of anonymity, the official told that Karzai assumed Pakistan’s security establishment would want to install an administration of their own preference, as they did in 80s.
“If this is your ambition then forget about it. Let me tell you that neither would the Americans leave this region nor would you be able to manipulate the situation as you did in the past,” the official added.
The official dismissed Karzai’s claim by saying that Pakistan does not have any hidden goal in Afghanistan.
“Karzai’s remarks reflect his own failure and frustration to succeed and lead his country to peace and prosperity,” the official said.
On the other hand, the spokesperson of the foreign ministry hesitated on commenting upon the talks between Afghan President and Pakistani leadership.
It is presumed that the Karzai visit, which was suppose to strengthen the relationship between the two neighbouring countries has now ended in a deadlock.
On the contrary, “They (Pakistan) say one thing and do another. There is no doubt that Taliban leadership and Mullah Omar are in Quetta. They recruit and fund people to create instability on this side. We have been deprived of peace in the country for the
last 30 years and it is because of our neighbours,” Afghan Presidential adviser, Assadullah Wafa told Reuters.
