David Haye and Dereck Chisora should be banned for life: Frank Maloney

Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and former British heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora had an ugly brawl, when the two squared up at the post-fight press conference of Chisora’s unanimous decision defeat to the current WBC heavyweight champion, Vitali Klitschko, and boxing promoter Frank Maloney is extremely unhappy with the incident.

An irked Maloney, who once promoted David Haye, while dismissing both fighters as ‘thugs’ insisted they should receive life bans from boxing.

Chisora lost to Vitali via a unanimous twelve rounds decision last weekend whereas Haye previously suffered an embarrassing defeat to Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir Klitschko, when the two fought last year at the Hamburg’s football stadium in Germany.

Maloney insisted Haye and Chisora should have shown their energies inside the ring and not outside.

“It was like two thugs fighting in the street,” Maloney said. “It’s a pity they didn’t put such effort in in the ring when they were fighting the Klitschko brothers; they both might be world champions today.

He added, “They should be punished for bringing the sport into disrepute – [they should be] banned for life.

“They show what sort of people they are; they’re bad role models for young people – they shouldn’t be allowed to take part in sport.

The Del Boy, Chisora, has called out David Haye on several occasions and he threatened that he will slap Haye too whenever he meets him inside or outside the ring. Perhaps this was the main reason why Haye took the initiative when Chisora walked over to him, as Haye knew Chisora was going to hit him.

However, Maloney reckons this was all pre-planned by Haye and Chisora in order to sell their fight. Maloney stated the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) should prevent any such match-up. In the meantime, the promoter also suggested that Haye-Chisora bout will not be interesting, if it ever happens.

Maloney concluded, “I don’t think the British Boxing Board of Control should allow that fight,” he added. “It would only turn into an ugly brawl; it would be no good for the sport.”

Well, all said and done, let’s see what actions are taken against Dereck Chisora and David Haye.
