Puss in Boots is a computer animated spin-off movie from the Shrek movie series. The film is produced by DreamWorks Animation and is based on the character which first appeared in Shrek 2. Due to its cuteness and actions, the cute little character was adored
by everyone, subsequently forcing it to rejoin the Shrek gang in its third instalment.
Long before Puss met Shrek, he was an adventurous cat and a saviour of the poor and the needy. He finds out two dangerous outlaws: Jack (voiced by Billy Bob Thornton) and Jill (voiced by Amy Sedaris) are seeking a historical power which can vanquish the
world. The legendary cat, voiced by Antonio Banderas, sets on a journey with his friend Dumpty, the mastermind who intends to retrieve the Golden Eggs, to stop them. Dumpty also introduces Puss, Softpaws who later becomes Puss’s female counterpart. She is
voiced by Salma Hayek, a famous Hollywood actress mainly known for her superb acting in film Frida.
The movie received mostly positive reviews from critics worldwide. IMDB gave it a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from its 22,862 users while a review aggregator site, Metacritic, gave it a score of 65 out of 100.
However, it received better score from Rotten Tomatoes. The site report 83 percent of 111 critics gave it positive reviews, with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10. It’s general consensus states, “It isn’t deep or groundbreaking, but what it lacks in profundity,
Puss in Boots more than makes up for with an abundance of wit, visual sparkle, and effervescent charm.”
Amy Biancolli of the Houston Chronicle awarded the film a score of three out of five and stated, “Puss in Boots prances along on three basic truths. One, cats are funny. Two, vain Spanish cats in high-heeled musketeer boots are even funnier. Lastly, booted,
vain Spanish cats voiced by a breathy Antonio Banderas are flat-out hilarious.”
Newark Star-Ledger’s Stephen Whitty gave a rating of three out of four and declared, “An almost purr-fect little film that even a dog owner can enjoy.”
Due to Puss’ irresistible cuteness and actions, no one can skip seeing the cute little Puss’s legendary, mythical and historical journey.
