Internet Privacy: A growing concern of the knowledgeable and growing threat to the oblivious – Part 1
Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 7:01:23 by Usman KhalidYou surf the internet and think you have your privacy intact. Think again!
There have been many articles and websites dedicated to vaporize the delusion of privacy on the internet. In fact in the last few years, there have been many reports made public on the heinous activities of the very companies that have helped in creating the illusive notion of internet privacy in the minds of the general public.
The truth of the matter is that the more a user browses the internet, the more he or she is under the radar of analytics and advertisement agencies. And not only does he or she bleep on the screen, some websites misguide and extract extra information about the user that the robotic trackers cannot get.
Recently a website called PrivacyChoice has promulgated its survey on the number of trackers and privacy loopholes a company has on its website. More than enough websites including your favourite news portals are in the thick of shredding the very private nature of your interaction with the internet.
For the last half a decade, the advertisement agencies have found a new trend of releasing trackers on the websites that are most visited, with the consent of the domain owner of course, merely for the purpose of observing the consumer behaviour. However, not every person in this world is open to disclosing his or especially her information to the world.
Most recently, Facebook was caught in the act of infringing many privacy acts on many levels. Federal Trade Commission issued a warning to the Social Network on the condition that it will not fail in any security henceforth or it will be punishable for a handsome amount of fee.
