Brahamdagh Bugti seconds US resolutions on Balochistan

Brahamdagh Bugti, the self-exiled chief of Baloch Republican Party (BPP), seconded the US Congressional hearing and resolution on Balochistan tabled in the house, welcoming all foreign interventions in the region whether it is by the NATO forces, India or the US.

The Baloch nationalist leader while addressing a telephonic news conference at the Quetta Press Club observed, “America must intervene in Balochistan and stop the ethnic cleansing of Baloch people. We know that foreign countries have their personal interest but we must think of our greater interest”.

US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher with co-sponsored by two other members introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives, calling up Pakistan to recognize the self determination right of Baloch people.

The bill has outraged Pakistani leaders and lawmakers have called it against the country’s sovereignty and an unwelcome intervention by the US.

Brahamdagh, whose sister and niece were killed a few weeks back, commented, “Baloch women, political leaders, activists, students, writers, poets, professors and intellectuals are being subjected to enforced disappearances and undergoing torture for years. Their mutilated bodies turn up daily”.

He continued, “Under such circumstances, we will welcome the support of foreign countries.

We have been accused of getting support from India but the Baloch movement does not have any foreign support. However, we will welcome any support for independence”.

He was of the opinion that the US resolution and committee established for Balochistan was not against the sovereignty of Pakistan.

Every country has a right to interfere or intervene if state sponsor violation of human rights.

The Baloch nationalist leader reiterated his stance that there is severe violation of human rights in Balochistan by intelligence forces. The state should permit free access to the region for journalists, international humanitarian organizations if the legislators believe that the situation is normal.

About an all-parties conference that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had announced over the crisis in Balochistan, he stated that Baloch nationalist leaders will not attend the sitting.

He called Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi and Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani to also join the Baloch movement, leaving behind their temporary and personal interest. He was of the opinion that they should resign if they do not want to join the movement, as the Baloch movement is nearing its goal.

The Baloch leader also flayed severe criticism at the ultra-conservative Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC), which is scheduled to hold a rally on February 27 in Quetta, saying there was no influence of Jihadi elements in Balochistan. These religious parties are backed by security agencies, he concluded.
