Nobody should ask Sachin Tendulkar to quit ODIs, says Dilip Vengsarkar
Friday, February 24th, 2012 10:41:45 by Rana Nasir GhafoorFormer Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar has said that the decision to quit One Day international cricket should be made only by Sachin Tendulkar himself and nobody should force him to quit.
His comments came in the wake of Kapil Dev’s views that he made on Wednesday. Kapil stated that the time has come for the Master Blaster to say good bye to ODIs and focus solely on the tradition version of the game.
"In my opinion, he should have quit ODI on a high after India won the World Cup….But it’s for him to decide," Kapil had said.
However, Vengsarkar has entirely different take on this, saying the legend batsman needs no advice on this issue.
"There is no need to advise a legend to hang his boots when he himself, I am sure, will do so when the time is right for him to do so," said Vengsarkar, a former chief selector, in a statement.
He added, "Sachin may be nearing 39 years, but I strongly feel that he is as fit and as charged up, if not more, than any of the players playing for India at present. His focus, dedication, and commitment to the team is unparallelled to say the least.”
The batting maestro has been going through a lean patch these days. So far in the ongoing tri-angular series in Australia, his fans have not seen any big knock from him.
Nonetheless, Vengsarkar is not worried about Sachin’s form and believes that batting star will soon get back to his best.
The former skipper also described that Sachin is an asset for the team and his presence in the playing XI provides a massive chance to the youngsters to learn.
"Sachin’s sheer presence can mould the future generation of Indian cricketers….the Mumbai team of yesteryears was strong because we had Test players playing club and inter-office cricket regularly in Mumbai. This helped upcoming, young cricketers immensely,"
Vengsarkar shared.
On team’s string of defeats in Australia, he elucidated that the whole side performed poorly and only Sachin cannot be blamed for everything.

That Sachin should quit one-day cricket is now a demand in a section of the media.
Former Indian captain Kapil Dev is also of the view.
As a numerologist I am of the opinion that Sachin will restore his vigour when he turns 39 on April 24.
Age 39 is a significant phase in his life.
I have been writing blogs about Dhoni and Sachin since 2007.
It was based on my findings about their influential numbers that I predicted the victory of Indian team in cricket world cup 2011.
The ASIAN TRIBUNE published my prediction on April 1,2011:-“Though Cricket World cup final unpredictable, Dhoni will be the 2nd captain to lift it for India”.
WC 2011was Sachin’s 6th world cup.
Sachin should not suddenly quit.
The period between April 24,2012 and April 24,2013 is strongly significant for him.
Perhaps he will have taken 102 centuries by that time.
