Saif Ali Khan: Brawl was not a publicity stunt
Friday, February 24th, 2012 4:01:26 by Imran Shaukat KhanThe Bollywood heart-throb Saif Ali Khan landed in a huge controversy last Wednesday after the Indian-origin businessman of South Africa, Iqbal Sharma, registered a complaint against the actor that he allegedly assaulted him and fractured his nose.
The incident occurred last Tuesday when Saif along with his girl friend Kareena Kapoor and some other friends went on to have a dinner at Taj Palace in Mumbai. Apparently, the argument started when Sharma, who was also having dinner with his family, complained the management that they are getting disturbed from the noise coming from Saif’s table.
Due to this brawl Saif, who was arrested by the Mumbai police on Wednesday, attracted a lot of media limelight and many out there believe this was all a pre-planned publicity stunt from Saif since his upcoming home production ‘Agent Vinod’ is scheduled to hit the cinema’s on March 23, 2012.
Therefore, Saif has spoken to the media in order to clarify things. The 41-year-old actor stated whatever he did was an act of self-defence and it has nothing to do with his film.
He said, “I am extremely sorry for what happened…it was not a publicity stunt…I acted in self-defence and I got hit on the eye and his nose doesn’t look like broken.”
In the meantime, Saif also requested the media not to be partial. He said he has filed a counter complaint as well and media should not give any biased report until court decision comes.
“Media is being partial reporting about the incident. I was hit first. They misbehaved with us and even used abusive language. I have also lodged a complaint and the matter is in court so I request media not to give any biased report until court’s decision comes,” he added.
Saif has been released on bail but the case is still being investigated. The police revealed that the CCTV footage is not available as a result to which they are taking statements.
Police stated, “We have already recorded statements of 15 witnesses including that of Sharma’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, his two friends, waiter who was present, bar manager who was on duty and Saif’s driver.”
