Suicide attack on Peshawar Police Station kill four cops
Friday, February 24th, 2012 10:45:09 by Faisal FarooqIn yet another brazen militant attack, four policemen including an SHO were killed and another seven sustained injuries on Friday when three suicide bombers blew themselves up in an attack on a police station in Peshawar.
The three assailants, armed with hand grenades, barged into the Kotwali Police Station, situated in the heart of Peshawar City in a congested locality, with the intention of usurping.
According to the media reports, the 40-minute battle left eight policemen injured out of which four including SHO Munawar Khan succumbed to their injuries in the Lady Reading Hospital.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Imtiaz Altaf while briefing the media about the incident said that the attackers hurled hand grenades at the security men on the gates which triggered crossfire. The policemen rapidly responded to the attack and the attackers had left no other option but to explode themselves, he added.
The CCPO termed the incident as a backlash against the operations carried out by the security forces on the militant hideouts in the tribal region.
Spokesperson of the Lady Reading Hospital informed the media that nine injured were brought to the hospital, out of which, two expired at the hospital. MS of the Lady Reading Hospital Rahim Jan Afridi informed that the condition of two of the injured admitted at the hospital is critical.
The inhabitants while speaking to the media said that they heard three minor blasts followed by a huge explosion. Straight away after the incident, intense firing engulfed the area and after sometime two major explosions went on.
The Kotwali Police Station is one of the largest in the city. Home to hundreds of new recruits, it not only serves as a barrack for the police personnel but also has an office of the special branch and other police officers including the residential quarters of the police attached to it.
The assault on the police station comes only a day after a car bomb attack left 13 dead and 37 injured at a bus stand on Kohat Road in Peshawar.

EU will be providing Pakistan with 10 robots and 10 vehicles that would help the security forces in combating terrorism and the use of improvised devices.
Improvised explosive devices are lethal. Government so far has failed to stop its production.
