Terror once again on rise in Pakistan
Friday, February 24th, 2012 12:46:33 by Faisal FarooqThe recent blasts in Peshawar are a terrible reminder, yet again; of how unsettled the militancy crisis is in the country.
The preachers of the complacency argue that the war on terror needs not be prioritized above anything else for the state to fight, citing gradually decreased numbers of terror cases.
It is quite a naive argument, as things have been changed with the time being. However, the reduction in instances of terror could be qualified to a host of factors other than a sustainable routing out of the forces of orientation.
Firstly, they have received good defeats on many accounts across the country. Although not as good as they could have, of course, numerous groups found difficulties to go about their business the way they used to. As soon as the crackdown ends, the state of affairs is changed.
Second of all, the groups reportedly have been considered a bit of brand management. Since the days the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was headed by Baitullah Mehsud, this consideration has been going on right way.
Hakeemullah Mehsud, the mercurial successor of Baitullah Mehsud, has discarded the plan which is being reckoned again.
There could be some compensation for the Swat Taliban, whose actions could not have been shielded by the most uncompromising conservatives press sections of the country. They had made things worse for the aforementioned public relations exercise.
Additionally, moderate political parties are taking centre stage in attempting to explain how not to combat the Taliban.
The latter feels it must do its part for now; since the fascistic control that these bodies have over the tribal region doesn’t really chafe the mainstream media, they really don’t have much to go down and everything to gain by staying out of the target.
Therefore, the lowered activity, barring the occasional attacks on ANP workers, their most logical bane on the political ambit are civil armed forces; occasional girls’ schools, police stations and general targets.
In order to initiate dialogue process, we don’t require one-sided analysis. We will have to obtain an accurate picture of the holistic whole and act upon it.
