Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko lashes out at Dereck Chisora
Friday, February 24th, 2012 1:04:33 by Imran Shaukat KhanWladimir Klitschko, the current WBA (Super)/IBF/WBO/IBO and Ring Magazine Heavyweight Champion, and Vitali Klitschko, the reigning WBC Heavyweight Champion, have blasted Dereck Chisora for embarrassing the sport.
Former British heavyweight champion, Chisora, slapped Vitali in his face at their Friday’s weigh-in and then spat water at Wladimir’s face moments before his WBC world heavyweight title match with Vitali began.
Later on, after losing to Vitali via a twelve round unanimous decision, Chisora had an ugly brawl with David Haye, former WBA world heavyweight champion, at the press conference, which ended with Haye’s trainer Adam Booth suffering cuts to his face.
Wladimir, who is more commonly known as Dr. Steelhammer, told the media he was totally shocked to see what happened at the press conference. He also revealed that it was hard for him to stay calm when Chisora spat in his face.
Wladimir said, “I’m speechless by what I saw at the press conference.
“Chisora slapped my brother and then he spat in my face and I really had to hold myself back when that happened.
“It’s hurt the sport of boxing but we will polish it up again. It’s not acceptable.”
Meanwhile, Vitali, who is more commonly known as Dr. Ironfist, also shared his thought with the media. Vitali, who fought Chisora with a left-arm injury from the fourth round, insisted he is not happy with the way he has won since he wanted to knockout the Brit.
Vitali stated, “I have respect for Chisora as a fighter but no respect as a human being. He was not fair.
“I was upset afterwards because I didn’t knock him out. I don’t want to make excuses but I fought for almost eight rounds with just my right hand and no left.”
Chisora’s stunts before and after the fight on Saturday have certainly made a bad impact on the sport and rumours revolving around are suggesting that now he will have to face a heavy fine for what he has done. According to the Brisbane Times, it seems that the German boxing federation (BDB) will levy a heavy fine for 1/5 of the purse or $100,000.
