The Togo International, Emmanuel Adebayor, thinks that his former club, Arsenal, should retain their top players especially their star striker, Rob van Persie, in order to stay at the top four.
Adebayor, who left Gunners for Manchester City in 2009 after firing 46 goals in his flourishing three years spell, believes his former side’s current position is due to their key players leaving the club.
"Arsenal have unfortunately lost their best players and have needed to merely replace rather than kick on," Adebayor was quoted. "But if they would just give themselves a chance to keep their best players they would be a real threat again.”
Adebayor also fears that if star players kept on leaving Arsenal and the Gunners do not find someone of the same caliber to replace, they will eventually lose everything.
Arsenal is currently on verge of exiting from the UEFA Champions League. They are standing at the fourth spot in the Premier League. However, they are already out from the Carling Cup and recently crashed out by the Black Cats at the FA Cup.
The African star, Adebayor, emphasizes that the Red Army should retain their captain, Robin Van Persie, if they want to progress in any competition. He insists Gunners to do everything to stop Van Persie from leaving or face consequences.
Adebayor further said to The Sun reporters: "We can all see that Van Persie is one of the best strikers in the league, in the world, and to lose him would be a massive blow. But to lose him, not to replace properly and to not build up the squad afterwards
would be a disaster. That would be an Arsenal team without any capacity to even challenge for trophies, let alone win one."
Currently on loan at Tottenham, Adebayor is not happy for the performance from his old side. The Togo International said that he has lots of good memories and friends with his former side and seeing the Invincibles crashing down really hurts.
He commented, "I swear to you there’s no joy for me in seeing Arsenal like this. Just because I play for Spurs now doesn’t mean I want to see them struggle.”
Adebayor is set to face Arsenal in the North London derby taking place this Sunday.
